Coldfyx is a two part solvent free polyurethane resin system, comprising of base and activator component. It has been designed for use as a cold applied adhesive for installing road markers, where traditional hot melt processes are impractical or uneconomical particularly in instances of small scale applications or replacing missing markers whilst other works are being carried out. Coldfyx can be applied directly onto Asphalt, Macadam or Concrete surfaces. A rapid cure version (Coldfyx Rapid Cure) is available for use in applications where rapid opening of the road is required.
Concrete surfaces require scabbling and pre-treatment with Coldfyx Primer.
Use road marker manufacturer’s installation procedures.
For larger installations the Coldfyx machine extrudes mixed Coldfyx material directly onto the surface allowing for faster application of markers.
Application
Installation should be carried out at ambient and road surface temperatures of between 3˚C and 40˚C; and air humidity of 95% or below. Surface temperature should be at least 2˚C above the dew point temperature.
Storing the product at 20˚C prior to use will improve handling characteristics. Care should be taken as increased temperature will reduce pot life.
Application of the system should be carried out when there is a weather window suitable whereby the road surfaces are completely dry for the duration of the installation. New asphalt should be at least 28 days old prior to application of Coldfyx. Where this is not practical, adhesion may be improved by scabbling to expose the stone matrix of the asphalt allowing the Coldfyx to bond directly to the aggregate.
Concrete must be at least 28 days old prior to installation.
All concrete surfaces must be scabbled by appropriate means.
Any laitance, loose aggregate, dirt, oil, grease, road salt and other loose material which may impair the adhesion of the system should be removed by appropriate means. Concrete surfaces must have Coldfyx Primer applied and allowed to dry for 1 hour.
Add all of the Coldfyx activator to the Coldfyx base and mix thoroughly for at least two minutes, until homogenous. Apply Coldfyx to the road surface ensuring that there is sufficient material to fully cover the base of the marker. Press the road marker firmly into the Coldfyx until contact with the substrate is felt. Coldfyx may also be applied direct to the base of the road marker using a stripping knife. Coldfyx is not suitable for application on to thermoplastic surfaces.
Storage
Coldfyx and Coldfyx Rapid Cure should be stored in a dry area and protected from frost. Coldfyx and Coldfyx Rapid Cure stored correctly has a shelf life of 12 months.
